The Harkin Institute hosted its inaugural Harkin Retirement Security Symposium on September 13 in Washington, D.C. The one-day symposium drew a diverse group of speakers and attendees from around the country to discuss the event’s theme, “Preserving and Enhancing Social Security for All.” Our talented panels and speakers, including Connecticut Congressman John Larson and Steve Goss, Chief Actuary of the Social Security Administration, focused on preserving and enhancing benefits in order to improve retirement security, specifically for groups who have no access to other retirement savings or have not accumulated sufficient retirement savings. The panelists discussed a variety of innovative ideas and proposals to improve retirement security and disability insurance, including targeted enhancements to Social Security for vulnerable groups and a bridge benefit for older workers. Our guests had the opportunity to engage in important conversations, make valuable connections, and delve deeper into issues that affect us all.
