Organizations working to preserve and improve water quality are invited to nominate their program to be considered for the 2025 Harkin On Wellness Designation. This year’s theme is The Future of Clean Water.
At The Harkin Institute, our goal is to facilitate collaborative, high-quality, nonpartisan, multi-disciplinary public policy research and analysis in the area of wellness and nutrition. As part of this goal, we are in the process of creating our annual report that highlights innovative wellness and nutrition initiatives and practices throughout the country.
This year’s Harkin On Wellness theme, the Future of Clean Water, was chosen to highlight and synthesize the progress being made around the country in protecting and improving water quality through community engagement, environmental education, watershed protection, water conservation initiatives, and innovative water quality monitoring programs.
Clean water is fundamental to public health and environmental sustainability and is increasingly under threat from climate change and other human-caused risks. Community-based initiatives that protect and improve water quality have been shown to have lasting, positive impacts on both human and environmental health. Furthermore, programs that engage communities in hands-on water quality improvement and conservation can foster environmental stewardship that benefits current and future generations. Groups working to preserve clean water, including nonprofit organizations, environmental groups, and community organizations should be recognized for the tremendous role they play in protecting this vital resource.
We are asking all relevant groups to submit information on the project or initiative they are currently working on or have previously implemented within their organization or community to The Harkin Institute.
Application information is included in the submission form, available here.
The submission link will close on Monday, January 6, 2025.
Applications will be selected through a competitive review process. Designees will be notified in late January 2025. Designees will receive an honorarium of $500, recognition as a Harkin On Wellness designee, and a plaque to recognize that honor. All designees will be invited to attend and present at the Harkin On Wellness Symposium on March 13, 2025, and will be eligible for up to $500 in travel reimbursement for attending.
