DES MOINES — U.S. Senator Tom Harkin (retired) issued the following statement on the passing of Ronald Sutcliffe:
“Ruth and I were deeply saddened to hear the news of Ronald Sutcliffe’s passing. Ronald was a dedicated voice for the deaf community and all those working to create a more inclusive society.
“I had the privilege to work with Ronald as we worked to pass the Americans with Disabilities Act, and later with his son, Glen, who carried on his dad’s legacy of protecting the civil rights of people with disabilities in my Washington D.C. office.
“We send our condolences to the Sutcliffe family and all those who were affected by Ronald’s devotion to service and equal rights.”
