What: AchieveABLE Futures: Using ABLE Accounts to Reach Your Financial Goals

When: Saturday, July 13, 2024, from 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. CT

Presentations will be held at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.
One-on-one sessions will be 25 minutes long held between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. as well as from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m.

Where: Tom and Ruth Harkin Center (2800 University Avenue, Des Moines, IA 50310)

Registration: Both the presentations and the one-on-one sessions are FREE! Registration is required.

Parking: Attendees will need to register for a FREE parking pass to park in Lot 24 behind the Tom and Ruth Harkin Center. Parking pass information will be sent to attendees after event registration.

Accommodations: Live captioning in English will be provided for attendees during the presentations. Captioning during one-on-one sessions is available upon request. American Sign Language interpretation is only available upon request for both the presentations and one-on-one sessions due to interpreter shortages throughout Iowa. ASL, captioning, and other accommodation requests can be made during registration or by emailing harkininstitute@drake.edu.

Event Summary

ABLE Accounts are tax-free savings and investment accounts for those with disabilities to help save for things like transportation, healthcare, food, housing, education, retirement, and more. But currently, only a fraction of eligible Iowans actually have an ABLE Account.

On July 13, The Harkin Institute is hosting a day-long clinic with a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ from Foster Group to give a breakdown on how ABLE Accounts work, who is eligible, and more. We will also offer one-on-one sessions with a financial planner who will help you set up an ABLE Account and answer any questions you may have. The first ten people to sign up for a one-on-one session AND set up an ABLE account will receive a $100 investment into that account, thanks to the generous sponsorship from the Iowa DD Council!

We will hold presentations at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. with one-on-one sessions in between.
